Thanks to the generosity of volunteer pilots who donate their time, expertise, and use of private aircraft, we recently completed 1,098 flights. That is an 18% increase from the previous year and a 690% increase over the past five years.
For more than four decades, LifeLine Pilots’ volunteers have flown more than 6.9 million miles and completed over 12,000 mission flights, all with a 100% safety record. Each flight flown last year, and every flight since we began in 1981, represents a real-life story of hope, healing, and the power of a compassionate volunteer pilot.
If you follow us on Facebook and Instagram, some of these stories might sound familiar. They represent just a few of the many passengers we have helped reach medical care far from home, at zero cost:
- A woman and her faithful service dog traveled to have a device surgically implanted to manage her rare brain condition.
- A couple spent Easter Sunday in the air so the husband could receive treatment for a lung condition at one of the nation’s leading hospitals.
- Parents and their toddler, diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, flew to a pediatric cardiology center for a pre-operative consultation.
- A mother and daughter, both battling cancer, received treatment at the same center.
As we look ahead, LifeLine Pilots remain committed to ensuring that distance never stands in the way of access to medical care.
